Moldova, Portugal to create cooperation relations in higher education sector

Chisinau, 1 November /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova and Portugal will create cooperation relations in the higher education sector. In this respect, the sides signed a letter of intent for Educational Cooperation between the Council of Rectors from Moldova (CCRM) and the Council of Rectors of the Portuguese Universities (CRUP).     

The document was signed by the CCRM president, Rector of the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF), professor Emil Ceban and CRUP president, Rector of the Porto University from Portugal, professor António Sousa Pereira. The signing of the letter of intent took place in the context of the visit to Moldova by President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at an invitation by President Maia Sandu.     

The goals of the letter of intent are the promotion of cultural, educational and academic exchanges; cooperation and technical exchange between the signatory educational partners. The cooperation relations will be focused on: inter-university mobilities of the academic, technical and administrative staff; exchange of materials in education and research, academic publications and information; joint research and publications; holding of conferences, seminars or other academic meetings; organization of programmes on technical or administrative training; development and delivery of courses and programmes, etc.        

Rector Emil Ceban said that ‘’this cooperation will outline an academic and management framework between the two signatory sides, meant to promote the internationalization of the higher education from Moldova.’’   

On the day of the signing, professor António Sousa Pereira visited  USMF Nicolae Testemitanu, to meet the administrative team. During the dialogue, the counterparts launched invitations for mutual visits, for informing and documentation, as well as to establish the aspects of bilateral cooperation and subsequently – conclude an agreement on cooperation between the universities in the education and research sector, etc.     

Also, Rector António Sousa Pereira visited the University Centre of Simulation in Medical Training, where modern methodologies of training and testing of practical skills are implemented within the university, post-graduate programmes and on continuous medical education of medical staff.

The University of Porto is a higher education and scientific research institution with a history of more than 100 years – leader in Portugal and recognized all over the world. It is regarded as the best Portuguese university and one of the best 100 European institutions, according to the most important rankings of the higher education. The University of Porto has 14 faculties and provides syllabi in the following fields: architecture, arts and humanistic sciences, engineering and technology, exact sciences, sciences of nature, sciences of health, social sciences, sport and law. Over 32,000 young people study here.
