Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of Crown of Romania, receives distinctive signs of Honorary Member of Moldova's Academy of Sciences

Chisinau, 13 November /MOLDPRES/ - A ceremony of handing over the academic distinctive signs of Honorary Member of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences (ASM) to Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Crown of Romania, took place at the ASM’s headquarters today.   

Attending the event were His Royal Highness Prince Radu, Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu, the acting president of ASM, Svetlana Cojocaru, academician Ion Tighineanu, the director of the Diplomatic Institute of the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry (MAEIE), Eugen Viziru, members and corresponding members of ASM, rectors, directors of institutes, culture people, researchers.      

In her greeting message, the acting president of ASM, Svetlana Cojocaru, said that, through the awarding of this title, the Academy had appreciated the activity of Her Majesty Margareta, of the Royal Family for the turning to account of the national history and culture, development and implementation of more projects in education, economy, medical education, culture and civil society, backing of young people, students, pupils, artists, vulnerable people, etc. The first royal scholarships, Ferdinand I and King Michael I, were given to students of the ASM University, who work at the Moldovan State University now.    

In his Laudatio speech, academician Mihai Cimpoi described Her Majesty Margareta as a prominent personality of the contemporary history.   

Her Majesty Margareta thanked Moldova’s Academy of Sciences for the awarding of this high distinction, noting that she was honoured by the title of Honorary Member of ASM, handed over to her.  

Margareta of Romania (born in Lausanne, Switzerland, on 26 March 1949) is the first daughter of the former King Michael of Romania and Queen Anne of Romania. In 2017, after the death of her farther, she took over the leadership of the Royal Family of Romania. In 2007, Margareta of Romania received on behalf of the former King the titles of Heir Presumptive of Romania and Custodian of the Crown of Romania. Through her parents, Margareta is direct descendant of great imperial families of Europe, with kings of France, England, German Emperors and Russian Tsars being among her ancestors.
