Moldovan PM: 2024 Investing for Children budget - sustainable and oriented towards future investments

Chisinau, Dec. 1 /MOLDPRES/- Budget for 2024 is sustainable and solidary, towards future investments. It provides essential allocations for the future of children, including the increase of the allowance at the birth of the child up to 20 thousand lei, increase of teachers' salaries by 15 percent and doubling scholarships for students of pedagogical faculties. Prime Minister Dorin Recean unveiled the information today.

"Today we will approve the budget for 2024 and we must take into account the fact that we continue to be in a crisis environment. We continue to have security challenges, energy price volatility, but today we are more prepared than ever for this. Even if several crises affect our economy and the fact that the budget and financial possibilities are limited, even so the Government is with all citizens and all areas that have needs. We have increased the salaries of doctors, we have offered social allowances to the most vulnerable categories in society, we are allocating record sums to agriculture. This year, the largest amount in the history of the Republic of Moldova is allocated to compensate for agricultural losses, and to subsidize investments. We have also compensated the invoice prices for a good part of our citizens. It was necessary to stabilize the economy. Inflation has fallen from 34 percent to below 9 percent and we will enter the normal inflation corridor towards the end of the year. At the same time, we see a start of recovery in both consumption and private investments", said Recean.

He said that the authorities want to offer higher incomes to all professional categories and to be with as many people as possible, "but the budget is still limited and the Government is still making efforts to grow the economy, and investments must be prioritized". "Under these conditions, our decision was to allocate the most money for 2024 in our future, that is, to allocate it for our children to stimulate and raise the generation that will build the future of the country. Biggest salary increases of 2024 - I mean about 70 percent of these increases will be meant for teachers", he said.

Thus, according to the official, from January 1, 2024, the allowance at the birth of children will be considerably increased, which will be 20 thousand lei (one thousand euros); approximately 1 billion lei will be allocated to increase by 15% the salaries of all teachers in the country, over 50 thousand people; scholarships will be doubled for students of pedagogical faculties; financial allocations for the Family and Child Protection program will be increased and money allocated for the development of villages and cities; compensations will still be given in the energy bill.

The official added that the 2024 budget is solidary, which also includes the social dimension and effectively targets the categories of beneficiaries. "That means we also have to target economic development. We will allocate another 200 million to stimulate the economy through various programs such as 373, and other programs to stimulate small and medium enterprises", he said.

The government approved today the budget for 2024. The project is to be submitted to the parliament for consideration.
