Six documentary films to be screened at Museum of Chisinau City

Chisinau, 5 December /MOLDPRES/ - Six documentary films, made at the Telefilm Chisinau Studio, will be screened at the event, Film Evenings at Height, the second edition, due at the Museum of History of the Chisinau City on 6-18 December at 18:00.    

Contacted by MOLDPRES, the museum’s director, Valeria Suruceanu, said the event, Film Evenings at Height, thus marked the Month of European Film 2023 in Chisinau, held on 3 November – 9 December. ‘’It has become a tradition that, in November-December, the European cultural institutions organize free of charge screenings of films, evening parties and public discussions dedicated to the European cinematography. This initiative is set to bring Europe closer to its citizens, celebrating, at the same time, the wealth and diversity of the European countries’ cinematographic culture,’’ Valeria Suruceanu noted.     

According to Suruceanu, six documentaries made at the Telefilm Chisinau studio will be screened in the panoramic hall of the museum within the event.   

This year, the staff of the TeleFilm-Chisinau Department of the Teleradio-Moldova Company: director Mircea Surdu, deputy director, producer Leonid Melnic, chief director Eugeniu Popovici, editor Lucia Taut and cameraman Roman Gatcan, was awarded the National Prize 2023 for outstanding achievements in the culture sector, for innovative approach, perseverance and self-denial in work, substantial contribution, with considerable impact, to the development of the society, to the promotion of the moral and humanitarian principles, as well as to the consolidation of the values, heritage and image of Moldova.     

It is worth mentioning that the Telefilm Chisinau Studio was founded in 1967. Over 300 documentaries were made at the studio. Following the 1989 year, the economic conditions were not quite friendly for the development of the cinematography and the Teleradio-Moldova Company, for the lack of financial resources, renounced the Telefilm Chisinau studio. Following decades of inactivity, the studio was reopened in 2017 with the support of the Council of Europe and EU, through the project titled, Promotion of freedom and pluralism of mass media in Moldova.
