Chisinau, 18 December /MOLDPRES/ - The carrying out of external controls at the general education institutions will be suspended as of 1  January 2024. The Education and Research Ministry (MEC) establishes a one-year-long moratorium on external verifications. A decision to this effect was announced by Minister Dan Perciun and is part of a comprehensive package of de-bureaucratization in the educational system.

„We launch today the first package of de-bureaucratization at the general education institutions and in the next half a year, we are to come up with the second package due to complement what we announce today and to provide enough time to teachers to focus on what is more important in the education process – and namely the child,’’ Dan Perciun said.

The minister noted that one of the actions due to be implemented was the suspension, starting from 1 January 2024, of the process of external evaluation of the education institutions. ‘’It is about a moratorium put on controls during one year, as from the analysis made so far, these controls seldom had the results expected and did not contribute significantly to the quality of the education process. They were focused on the verification of the existence of the documentation in schools and less were answering the question whether qualitative education is made at the concerned institution,’’ Dan Perciun said.

The minister also said that the National Agency of Ensuring Quality in Education and Research will have a period of half a year at its disposal to rethink the way the schools are assessed and to propose a new ‘’simpler and clearer’’ variant of  methodology.’’

At the same time, MEC will simplify the so-called type-classified list of the school documentation and reports in the general education. ‘’This is a list of acts which there must be in an education institution. The number of these acts is significantly cut; at the same time, the way they are approved or verified,’’ Dan Perciun said.

According to statistics data, about 1,200 schools work in Moldova.
