New deputy speaker appointed today

Chisinau, 24 Jan. /MOLDPRES/- Doina Gherman will be the new head of PAS faction and deputy speaker. Speaker Igor Grosu made the statement today.

Grosu said that the restructuring of the parliamentary committees will be announced at the first meeting of this session, due on February 1.

He thanked Minister Nicu Popescu, who announced his resignation today, for the efforts at the head of Moldovan diplomacy.

"It was an enormous work, a team work, through which the Republic of Moldova managed to open the EU accession negotiations and gain an important place among the countries of the world. In just two years, Nicu Popescu, together with other members of President Maia Sandu's team, together with our colleagues, contributed to one of the main wishes of Moldovans, which a few years ago seemed impossible - brought us closer to the European Union - we received the status of a candidate country and opened the accession negotiations to the European Union. We have a difficult and complex road ahead of us, that's why we need things started well to continue. We are glad that Mihai Popșoi, deputy speaker, head of PAS faction and the person who took care of the promotion of parliamentary diplomacy abroad, will take on the challenges as Minister of Foreign Affairs", wrote Grosu.

In the morning, the head of the MAEIE, Nicu Popescu, announced his resignation. Later, Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced that the chair of Foreign Minister will be taken over by Mihai Popșoi, and European Integration portfolio will be taken over by Cristina Gherasimov, who will also coordinate the activity of the European Integration Office.
