National Army of Moldova detaches 20th contingent of peacekeepers to Kosovo

Chisinau, 25 January /MOLDPRES/ - The National Army has detached the 20th contingent of peacekeepers on the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo.    

Attending the official ceremony were the Moldovan president’s adviser in the field of national defence and security, secretary of the Supreme Security Council Stanislav Secrieru, the leadership of the Defence Ministry and the General Staff of the National Army, Ambassador of the United States to Moldova Kent D. Logsdon, Ambassador of Italy to Moldova Lorenzo Tomassoni, the head NATO’s Liaison Office in Moldova, Michaela Šimáková, as well as military attachés.        

In his message, Stanislav Secrieru congratulated the contingent of peacekeepers and thanked the servicemen for the essential contribution they bring to the achievement of the national security goals. ‘’Being involved in this mission, you contribute to the promotion of Moldova’s positive image inside the international community,’’ the official said.   

Defence Minister Anatolie Nosatii stressed that the tenth anniversary of Moldova’s participation with military in the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo was marked this year. ‘’This figure speaks about the professionalism of the National Army’s servicemen, the responsibility and devotion of those 20 contingents which Moldova has detached in the KFOR mission, in the effort to keep the peace and international stability,’’ Anatolie Nosatii said.     

During six months, those 41 military will fulfill missions of security and guard of military objects and of patrolling the area of responsibility. For the first time ever, four women military will take part in this peacekeeping mission.   

The Moldovan servicemen will be members of the Regional Command-West and will be deployed at the Camp Villaggio Italia military base from the Pech settlement, Kosovo.
