Moldovan president, Head of EU Delegation to Moldova discuss next steps in process of accession to European Union

Chisinau, 1 February /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has had a meeting with Head of the European Union’s Delegation in Moldova, Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks. The officials discussed the next steps on the European integration way, after the European Council had ruled to start the negotiations on accession with Moldova in December 2023, the presidential press service reported.      

Among the first steps, there is the initiation of an analysis of the degree of compliance of the Moldovan legislation with the European standards, the elaboration and adoption of a framework of negotiations by the European Union member countries, as well as the full enforcement of the recommendations formulated by the European Commission.   

At the meeting, the Moldovan president stressed the importance of the citizens’ involvement in this process. At a referendum due in the next autumn, the citizens will have possibility to express their will concerning Moldova’s European future and the country’s aspiration to become a European Union member state.
