Superior Council of Prosecutors holds exam of interview of candidates in contest for office of Moldova's Prosecutor General

Chisinau, 23 February /MOLDPRES/ - The members of the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) have held the exam of interview of the candidates in the contest for the office of Prosecutor General. The largest number of points given was 8.53 and the lowest – 4.72.   

Following the interview which lasted more than five hours, the Council ruled to provide the following final number of points: Octavian Iachimovschi – 8.53; Igor Demciucin – 8.19; Ion Munteanu – 8.16; Andrei Coca – 4.72.  

Under the normative framework, the candidate for the office of Prosecutor General is interviewed and evaluated by the members of the Council based on the following criteria:  

- the concept of management and institutional development of the Prosecutor General’s Office;  
- the motivation of acceding to the position of prosecutor general;
- the professional experience and competence;
- the capacity of critical analysis and public communication;
- the institutional commitment related to the professional values;
- integrity, ethics and good reputation.

Following the interview exam, in line with the provisions of the Law No 252/2023 on the external evaluation of the judges and prosecutors and the change of normative acts, the Superior Council of Prosecutors is to submit the information on candidate Octavian Iachimovschi to the evaluation Commission, for the external evaluation of his ethic and financial integrity.   

Following a decree signed by the Moldovan president on 26 September 2023, the office of Prosecutor General became vacant. Prosecutor General Alexandru Stoianoglo was suspended from his office in early October 2021 and in late  September, he was dismissed from position. Dumitru Robu and then Ion Munteanu exercised the position of acting prosecutor general.
