Chisinau, 20 March /MOLDPRES/ - The International Francophonie Day is marked in Moldova today. On this occasion, Culture minister Sergiu Prodan has conveyed a message, thereby reiterating Moldova’s attachment to the cultural and political values of the Francophonie.

At the same time, the official stressed the importance of the francophone area for the self-assertion of the country’s artists from various sectors and for the turning to good account of their creative spirit. ‘’Millions of people from all over the world today mark the International Francophonie Day, implicitly the French language – the fifth one mostly spoken in the world, the official language in 32 governments and in most international organizations. Among these millions of people, there are also we, the ones from Moldova, who directly or not, sometimes, without realizing this, have connection with the French language and culture,’’ Minister Sergiu Prodan stressed.

According to the minister, Moldova is a francophone country by tradition. With tens of thousands of young people studying the French language at school or at the  university. With another tens of thousands who choose French-speaking countries for education. With another several hundreds of thousands of fellow countrymen for whom France or Switzerland, Belgium or Canada or any other French-speaking country has become the second home – and they, for their part, have become members of the francophone family.  The Francophonie, with all diversity which it implies, is a prolific sphere also for many culture people from Moldova, no matter whether they live in our country our abroad. Writers and musicians, painters or sculptors, designers and photographers – for everybody, the francophone channel, the self-assertion in this area means a firm step to the great world of the art.

„A symbol of culture and creativeness, the Francophonie is presently – in the French-speaking countries, as well as in the ones which share their values – also a vector of democracy and humanism, of the rights and freedoms, of solidarity and acceptance of differences and the cultural diversity. These are foundation principles, on which we set to edify the future Moldova and which we embrace with all confidence. We embrace, along with our artists, the subject of the International Francophonie Day 2024, Create, innovate, undertake in French. The Culture Ministry supports the creativeness and innovation in all its manifestations and we are confident that the francophone area can be an excellent platform to turn to good account this creative spirit,’’ Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan said in his message.
