Students, teachers of Moldovan State University to benefit from modern infrastructure, syllabi

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/ - The infrastructure of the Moldovan State University (USM) will be improved, the laboratories will be endowed with last generation equipment and the syllabi will be modernized. These things will be possible, after the institution was given two grants worth 5.58 million euros within the Higher Education in Moldova project. The latter is implemented by the Education and Research Ministry (MEC) and financed by the World Bank. 

The first grant amounted to 2.08 million euros and the second – 3.5 million euros. ‘’We are set to enhance the attractiveness of the universities and it is important that we persuade as many as possible lyceum graduates to continue their education in Moldova. On the last period, we have got ever more confidence that we can provide competitive education regionally and I think that we will gradually succeed ever more at the European level as well. The investments made aim, first of all, at creating good conditions for education and living, according to students’ expectations and the quality of the education which they can get will provide them jobs and the skills needed to be able to assert themselves personally and professionally,’’ Education and Research Minister Dan Perciun said.   

The World Bank’s representative in Moldova, Ion Gonta, said that the investments at USM targeted the modernization of the education system, training teachers, endowing laboratories, strengthening the research centres and, not in the least, revitalizing the specialties of exact sciences.   

With the resources provided by MEC and the World Bank, the University will create an educational and scientific Cluster for the support of modern biotechnologies in the national economy and purchasing of modern equipment and advanced technologies for the training probations in physics. Also, the teaching process will be modernized in the field of biological, physical and environmental sciences, in the context of the rigours of the labour market, as well as the process of professional training at the specialties of Informatics and Applied Informatics. At the same time, the practical skills of the students at the general fields of studies, Chemical sciences and Sciences of education will be strengthened and digital abilities of the teachers will be developed.    

About 24.7 million euros is allocated for the modernization of six universities and six pedagogical colleges from Moldova, within the Higher Education from Moldova Project. Over 35,000 students and about 2,300 teachers will benefit from these results.
