Chisinau, April 4 /MOLDPRES/- Customs Service head Igor Talmazan today announced his resignation.

In his message, Igor Talmazan said "there is still much work to be done in the institutional integrity and professional ethics". "The latest case, in which seven customs inspectors suspected of corruption were documented at the Airport Customs Post, shows that much more work is needed. As head, I am responsible for the good management of the Customs Service and I assume both the successes and especially the failures during the period I have been leading the Customs Service and I believe that, as head of the institution, it is necessary to submit my resignation as a sign of honour and to retire from the position of director of the Customs Service. The fight against corruption is a long-term effort and I believe that new energy is needed to accelerate and complete this mission, and the new leader must put more emphasis on the area of institutional integrity," he said.

He also thanked his colleagues for their work.

Igor Talmazan served as Director of the Customs Service from September 2021 to November 2022, and was reappointed on 20 February 2023.
