PHOTO Council of Europe donates medical equipment and devices to prison system

Chisinau, April 9 /MOLDPRES/- The Council of Europe has offered a consignment of medical equipment, devices and furniture to the penitentiary system in our country.

Attending the event were Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru and Council of Europe Deputy Secretary General Bjørn Berge, who is visiting our country.

Opening the event, the CoE official said "the excellent cooperation and partnership between the Council of Europe and the authorities of the Republic of Moldova is undoubtedly producing beautiful results and helping us jointly raise the standards of quality healthcare in prisons and improve the health and well-being of prisoners".

The Minister of Justice appreciated the Council of Europe's support: "Improving conditions in prisons, including ensuring quality health care for all persons in detention is a priority for the Ministry of Justice. Equipping prison medical facilities with modern equipment will contribute significantly to increasing the quality of medical services provided to persons deprived of their liberty and to ensuring respect for their right to health. We are grateful to the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau for this valuable contribution and for its unconditional support to our efforts to create decent conditions of detention, as required by international standards", said Mihailov-Moraru.

Bjørn Berge is visiting Moldova on 8 - 9 April. His agenda included a visit to the Moldova State University, where he gave a public lecture. Berge also held a lot of high-level meetings.
