Young pianist of Moldova wins first place at International Piano Competition in Switzerland

A young pianist of Moldova, Martina Meola, has won first place at the Jeune Chopin International Piano Competition in Lugano, Switzerland. The competition, dedicated to the rediscovery of Chopin's music, brought together gifted young musicians from around the world and was presided over by famous pianist Martha Argerich.

"This was a wonderful experience, full of indescribable emotions! Many thanks to the organizers and especially to my extraordinary teacher Silvia Limongelli for all the effort and support," Martina wrote on her page.

Before the competition, the young artist held a concert in Chisinau, to present her program during the inauguration of the new Steinway piano at the Organ Hall.

The Ministry of Culture congratulated Martina Meola, highlighting her outstanding  performance and success.

"Congratulations, Martina Meola! We are proud that on the eve of this important competition for any aspiring pianist, Martina Meola presented us the competition program in Chisinau at the inauguration concert of the new Steinway piano,"

Martina was born in Milan on November 28, 2012. She began her musical studies at the Alexei Stârcea School of Arts in Chisinau and at just 9 years old, she was admitted to the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan under the Young Talents programme.
