PHOTO GALLERY // Great Emil Loteanu in MOLDPRES’ photo chronicle: rare pictures from film sets at 90th anniversary of birth
The MOLDPRES State News Agency pays visual tribute to one of the most representative figures of the national culture, director, screenwriter and poet Emil Loteanu (November 6, 1936 – April 18, 2003), by publishing a gallery of exclusive photographs. On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the great filmmaker’s birth, these archival pictures bring back unique moments from behind the scenes of film production, from his work on film sets and from the master’s public life.
The photographs recreate the electrifying atmosphere surrounding the making of the cinematic masterpieces that established Moldova’s name internationally: Red Glades, The Lautari (Fiddlers), A Gypsy Camp Goes Up to Heaven, My Sweet and Tender Beast and Anna Pavlova.
The archival images capture Emil Loteanu in all his professional complexity: a demanding and firm director on set, yet a man of profound artistic sensitivity, always searching for new talents whom he guided masterfully toward the big screen. The photographs show him working directly with actors, reflecting at his writing desk, as well as delivering public speeches and attending professional gatherings.
A pillar of the national cultural heritage
Recognized as an uncompromising artist who wrote his own screenplays and gave each frame a distinct poetic value, Emil Loteanu remains a landmark figure for generations past, present and future.
By publishing this photo gallery, MOLDPRES seeks to preserve and promote the master’s visual legacy and give the general public the opportunity to rediscover the artistic universe of the creator who transformed cinema into a true ambassador of Moldova’s culture.
