Prime Minister proposes declaring 2027 Year of Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici

2027 could be declared the Year of Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici. The proposal was made by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, 34 years after the deaths of artists Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici.

In a message published on his Facebook page, the prime minister noted that the story of the two artists also has a personal dimension for him. Vasile Tofan was a classmate of the artists’ son, Cristi Aldea-Teodorovici, at Gheorghe Asachi High School, and he knew Doina’s mother, Eugenia Marin, as a teacher.

“Their songs accompanied the years when Moldova was reclaiming its language, freedom, and right to decide its own future. They gave voice to a period of great hope and great courage,” Vasile Tofan wrote.

The prime minister noted that 34 years later, the voices of the two artists continue to be heard and to remind people of the generation that believed in a free Moldova that knows its language, culture, and Romanian roots.

“On this autumn day, our thoughts are with Ion and Doina—two kindred hearts. In honor of their courage and our country’s freedom, I proposed that next year be declared the Year of Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici,” he said.

Taking part in all the events that marked the process of national revival and releasing deeply patriotic songs such as “Sovereignty,” “Our Home Is Holy,” “Căpriana Monastery,” and others, Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici became symbols of Moldova.

The two artists died in a tragic accident on the night of October 29–30, 1992.
