Moldova prepares to export industrial products to EU; European experts to evaluate National Metrology System
A group of experts appointed by the European Commission is visiting Moldova to conduct an operational pre-evaluation of the national metrology system. This is an important step towards gaining access for industrial products to the European Union market.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization (MDED) noted that this pre-evaluation followed previous assessments in the fields of standardization, accreditation and conformity assessment, and was part of a broader process of harmonizing the national system with European quality infrastructure requirements.
The mission fits into the context of preparing Moldova for launching negotiations on an Agreement on Conformity Assessment and Acceptance of Industrial Products (ACAA) with the European Union.
“Such an agreement will allow Moldovan industrial products—especially those in the field of low voltage electrical equipment and electromagnetic compatibility—to be certified directly in Moldova, with certifications automatically recognized in all EU member states. This will reduce trade barriers and facilitate local producers' access to the European market,” MDED said.
During the pre-evaluation mission, European experts met representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, institutions in charge of the quality infrastructure, as well as representatives of the business community and conformity assessment institutions.
At the end of the mission, European Commission experts will present a report due to include concrete recommendations for strengthening the metrology system and aligning it with European best practices.
