Moldovan government approves signing of Moldovan-Romanian agreement on construction of road bridge across Prut river
Chisinau, 2 February /MOLDPRES/ - The cabinet of ministers today approved the signing of an agreement with the government of Romania on the construction, exploitation, maintenance and repair of the border road bridge across the Prut river between the settlements Ungheni (Moldova) and Ungheni (Romania), the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The bridge will interconnect the road infrastructures between the states: the motor highway Targu Mures – Iasi – Ungheni – state border (Romania) and national road R1 Chisinau – Ungheni – border with Romania (R. Moldova).
Moreover, the construction of the bridge will enhance Moldova’s role as point of connection between the European Union countries and the Commonwealth and Independent States (CIS) and will ensure citizens’ mobility.
The government of Romania will finance the works of construction of the bridge and of the access road, including the related infrastructures, placed in Romania. The construction of the access road and of the related infrastructure on the side of Moldova (works the cost of which is estimated at 36 million lei) will be financed by the Moldovan government.
It is worth mentioning that, on 21 January 2022, online negotiations were held on technical, financial, legal and organizational aspects on the construction, exploitation, maintenance and repair of the border road bridge between the two states.
The agreement is to be signed by the sides at a joint meeting of the governments of Moldova and Romania, scheduled for 11 February. Deputy Prime Minister, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Andrei Spinu will sign the agreement on behalf of Moldova.
