Moldovan PM conveys message on International Human Rights Day
Chisinau, 10 December /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Ion Chicu sent a message today on the International Human Rights Day, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
The message says:
"Today, December 10, 2020, we celebrate 72 years since the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which serves as a fundamental pillar for the development of our society.
This anniversary provides an additional opportunity to take a look back at the challenges and problems faced by Moldova in terms of respect for human rights, the achievements made so far and the actions we must continue to take to promote and strengthen human rights, democracy, the rule of law and gender equality in all areas of activity.
Despite the challenges set by the pandemic, the government continues to come up with measures, initiatives and programs to ensure human rights for all our citizens.
The government has recently adopted at the meeting of the National Council for Human Rights the first report of the Action Plan on Human Rights adopted for 2018-2022, being a policy document specialized for the first time with the support of our international partners, especially the Office of the High UN Commissioner for Human Rights in Moldova. The plan includes policy achievements and challenges identified in the 16 areas of intervention.
International Human Rights Day is an opportunity to ensure that our citizens have safe and inclusive spaces and can participate in all decisions that impact their well-being and development.
We join the Stand Up for Human Rights - Recover Better Campaign and emphasize the importance of ensuring and promoting fundamental human rights and freedoms.
The government continues to be committed to contributing to the empowerment of our citizens, so that they know better and claim their rights - an essential condition for an inclusive and prosperous society. "
