Moldovan PM has meeting with U.S. senator in Washington
Chisinau, 21 July /MOLDPRES/ - Solutions as to the strengthening of the national energy security, as well as the overcoming of the regional crisis have been discussed at a meeting between Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita and U.S. senator Christopher Andrew Coons in Washington. The sides exchanged opinions on the present security situation and referred to the practical ways of backing Moldova, including in order to ensure the economic and energy stability and resilience, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The PM said that, on this period, the strategic investments in the energy sector were priority and the authorities set more goals as regards the diversification of energy sources. At the same time, according to the prime minister, in the management of this crisis, emphasis is put on people and the help the government can provide to those with modest incomes.
In this respect, in order to diminish the impact of the increase in prices for energy on the socially vulnerable consumers, a fund of reducing the energy vulnerability has been recently established. The Fund’s creation will allow the providing in invoice of monthly compensations for the consumption of natural gas, electric and thermal energy, as well as of a subsidy for replacing technically obsolete household appliances by efficient ones from the energy viewpoint. ‘’We will further do our utmost to protect the citizens from the new increases in prices and the additional assistance on behalf of our partners, especially on behalf of the USA, will be quite useful to this end,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said.
The officials expressed interest in the consolidation of the Moldovan-American partnership in sectors with high potential. They agreed on undertaking joint efforts for the successful carrying out of the transformation processes, launched for the benefit of the people from Moldova.
PM Natalia Gavrilita paid a working visit to the USA on 14-21 July.
