Chisinau hosts festivity dedicated to Day of Moldova's Academy of Sciences
Chisinau, 12 June /MOLDPRES/ - A festivity dedicated to the Day of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences (ASM) took place in Chisinau today; the event was held on the occasion of 62nd anniversary of ASM’s foundation and the 77th anniversary of the creation of the first academic-type institutions in Moldova.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, ASM president Ion Tighineanu said that, in the last years, the Academy had managed to consolidate its position at the European and international levels, creating bridges of cooperation with more outstanding personalities and important entities from the science and innovation sectors.
”Presidents and deputy presidents of European and international Academies, an impressive number of experts in diverse fields, including laureates of the Nobel Peace Prize in physics, chemistry, medicine, etc. took the floor at the rostrum of our Academy. This year, composer Gheorghe Mustea and Constantin Rusnac became members of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. Academicians Aurelian Gulea and Ion Toderas got the Great Prize of the Geneva International Inventions Exhibition. The work which was awarded the prize was made in collaboration with professor Sebastien Floquet from France and is dedicated to the elaboration of a food supplement based on molybdenum for bees, which stimulates their immune system. During the days of the Convorbiri literare (Literary Talks) magazine, academician Mihai Cimpoi was awarded the Titu Maiorescu National Prize for literary critic,’’ the ASM president noted.
The agenda of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences included greeting messages of scientific personalities of Moldova and from abroad, among whom President of the Romanian Academy, academician Ioan Aurel Pop and President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Anatoly Zagorodny. Identity cards of ASM corresponding members, elected to this position at the General Assembly of the Academy from 10 March 2023, were handed also here. Also, a group of researchers were awarded distinctions of ASM and international institutions on the occasion of the Day of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences and other scientific events.
The setting up of the academic sector of Moldova’s science was initiated immediately after the World War II. Under a decision from 11 March 1946 by the government of the USSR to organize a base of scientific research of the Soviet Academy of Sciences in Chisinau, on 12 June 1946, the Council of Ministers of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic (RSSM) adopted a decision, On the creation of the Moldovan Base of scientific researches of the Academy of Sciences from the USSR in Chisinau. The act on the foundation and opening of the Academy of Sciences from RSSM took place on 2 August 1961.
Presently, Moldova’s Academy of Sciences has 76 members, of whom 38 titular members and 38 corresponding ones. At the same time, about 40 personalities got ASM’s Doctor Honoris Causa title.
