Medical technologies, artificial intelligence at center of new partnerships proposed by Moldova's State University of Medicine and Pharmacy

Advanced medical technologies and artificial intelligence are at the center of new partnerships proposed by the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (USMF). The initiative aims to develop applied research, facilitate access to clinical expertise and create medical solutions that can be used both in Moldova and on foreign markets.

These opportunities were presented by Andrei Romancenco, Vice-Rector for Institutional Development, Digitalization and Internationalization at the USMF, during the Moldova Health Economy Forum – 2026.

One of the projects presented is HealthTech Hub – a national platform dedicated to innovation and internationalization in the healthcare sector, which is to be established at the Nicolae Testemitanu University. The hub will connect education, research and entrepreneurship and support the development of safe, validated and scalable medical solutions.

According to Andrei Romancenco, HealthTech Hub will serve as a catalyst for digital medical technologies, artificial intelligence and medical devices, while seeking to attract investment and integrate Moldova into international healthcare innovation networks.

“HealthTech Hub is an operational core that brings together clinical expertise, research and technology. At the same time, it represents a campus dedicated to innovation, technology and medicine – a space for talented people from the medical and engineering fields, as well as access to current and real-world data. Thirdly, it offers prospects for internationalization, investment and access to foreign markets,” said Andrei Romancenco.

The initiative proposes more areas of cooperation with the business community and investors. They include digital health and artificial intelligence, the development of medical devices, advanced diagnostic and laboratory technologies, as well as the clinical validation of scientific research.

Doina Nistor, President of the Moldova HiTech Park Council, said that the Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Technical University of Moldova were joining forces to create a joint center dedicated to bioengineering, artificial intelligence and healthcare data.

The new initiative, developed within TechPark, aims to establish a center of excellence for medical engineering and advanced healthcare data processing. According to Doina Nistor, investments will target both medical data analysis solutions and the development of new medical technologies.

“Investments will be directed both toward medical data analysis solutions and direct technological innovations, leveraging the potential of young researchers and entrepreneurs in the country,” Doina Nistor emphasized.

The project focuses on attracting new innovative initiatives and benefits from the support of institutional partners, including the Organization for Entrepreneurship Development. Researchers, entrepreneurs and companies interested in developing products in the fields of bioengineering and artificial intelligence are invited to join the ecosystem.

The Moldova Health Economy Forum – 2026 brought together government officials, international experts, investors and representatives of academia to identify new development opportunities for the healthcare industry and medical tourism.

The event was organized at the initiative of the Medical Tourism Association and the Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers of Moldova.
