Public lighting in Chisinau to be connected as usual
Chisinau, Oct. 31 /MOLDPRES/- Public lighting in Chisinau will be connected as usual. Chisinau mayor Ion Ceban made the statement at today's meeting of the municipal services.
According to the mayor, the Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE) of the capital will convene in a meeting to approve a decision in this regard.
"I saved electricity in Chisinau for five days. For each day, expenses were reduced by about 15 thousand lei (about 700 euros). We cannot skimp on people's health and safety. It's dark, which we've all seen these days, it's unsafe for pedestrians and drivers alike. We cannot let children and adults walk in the dark. At the same time, in Chisinau, at the new objectives, on several streets, in fences, in parks, LED bulbs were installed", said Ion Ceban.
The mayor of the capital emphasized that the amount of electricity for lighting the city for one hour a day, for 7 days, is 0.02% of the total amount of electricity consumed in the country for a week. "This is an insignificant volume, especially considering the risks that are in the evening period, when all the people go home. Thus, I think that it is no longer appropriate to disconnect the street lighting in the evening, people's safety is much more important. At the same time, we continue to make efforts to save energy", he said.
According to a previously approved CSE decision, public lighting in Chisinau was disconnected one hour earlier in the morning - 06:00 and connected one hour later in the evening - 20:00.
