Moldovan sportspeople win bronze medals at European table tennis championships

Moldovan sportspeople Andrei Putuntica and Vladislav Ursu have won bronze medals in the men’s doubles event at the European Table Tennis Championships held in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

According to the Education and Research Ministry (MEC), the pair of Andrei Putuntica and Vladislav Ursu achieved a historic result for table tennis of Moldova. In the qualifying rounds, the athletes defeated representatives of the Czech Republic and Poland, while in the main draw they overcame pairs from England, Germany and Belgium.

In the semifinals, the Moldovans lost 0–3 to the Swedish pair of Anton Källberg and Kristian Karlsson, finishing the competition with bronze medals.

For Vladislav Ursu, this is his second bronze medal won at the senior European Championships. He claimed his first in 2024, also in the men’s doubles event, alongside Austrian player Maciej Kolodziejczyk.

The medal won at this year’s edition is a first for Moldova: it is the country’s first senior European distinction in the men’s doubles event achieved by a pair made up exclusively of Moldovan athletes.
