Irina Florea wins bronze for Moldova at World Sambo Championships

Athlete Irina Florea won the bronze medal for the Republic of Moldova at the World Youth Sambo Championships, held in Thessaloniki, Greece. The young athlete secured the national team’s only medal at the competition after defeating the representative of the host country in the match for third place, in the up-to-54 kg weight category.

The student of Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy reached the podium after a successful run that culminated in the bout for the bronze medal.

Four other representatives of the Republic of Moldova finished the competition in fifth place: Egor Cuijuclu in the up-to-71 kg category, Ana Bucatari (-47 kg), Cornelia Seinic (-50 kg), and Iulia Cosiug (-65 kg).

The Republic of Moldova was represented by 14 athletes at the World Youth Championships. A total of 713 athletes from 40 countries participated in the competition.
