Moldovan government to foster cooperation relations with top European bank

Chisinau, 7 August /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet met Head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Office in Chisinau Julia Otto today. The officials tackled EBRD activity in Moldova and set cooperation goals for the months next period, the government's communication and media relations department has reported. 

Strelet showed the government's interest in boosting ties with EBRD. „I am familiarised with projects supported by EBRD in Moldova, including from the parliamentary experience. We highly appreciate the ties with EBRD and speak out for a constructive cooperation, in order to implement common goals dynamically and efficiently,” Strelet said.

For her part, Julia Otto voiced EBRD's willingness to develop relations on all cooperation dimensions. „Our 2014-2017 strategy for Moldova stipulates several priority directions, among which: development of private sector; facilitating access of small and medium enterprises to financing; implementation of the Agreement on the creation of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with EU (DCFTA), as well as attracting investments into the Moldovan economy. We are willing to help the Moldovan authorities, by providing expertise and financial assistance, to ensure a friendly business environment and create necessary infrastructure to this end,” Otto said.

The sides addressed the achievement of goals of the Memorandum on improving the investment climate and initiative to strengthen a good governance, signed between the Moldovan government and EBRD in 2014. In this context, the officials referred to the need to implement the Ombudsman for Business Environment project.

The sides also approached the work of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister, the secretariat of which is financed with EBRD support. Strelet spoke out for expanding this dialogue platform and wider involvement of factors interested in communication and consultation of economic policies promoted by the government.

EBRD is the biggest institutional investor in Moldova, with a portfolio of almost one billion euros and over 100 financed projects in various sectors.
