Romania to back Moldova in modernising energy system

Chisinau, 25 August /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister, Economics Minister Octavian Calmic today met Romanian Energy Minister Victor Vlad Grigorescu. They discussed issues related to the bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, implementation of projects on interconnection of electricity and gas transmission networks between Moldova and Romania.

According to the Economics Ministry’s press service, the two officials appreciated evolutions in the last period in the direction, especially, after meetings of joint working group in energy within the intergovernmental commission Romania-Moldova, setting concrete goals for implementing interconnection projects.

In the context, Calmic and Grigorescu noted that an important step in implementing the two interconnection projects was signing agreements on cooperation between Moldelectrica and Transelectrica in the electricity sector, involving investment works for modernization and infrastructure development in the energy sector in Moldova, providing technical assistance and highly qualified experts, as well as between Transgaz and Vestmoldtransgaz companies in gas interconnection sector.

The two officials agreed that a joint plan would be elaborated in the nearest future, which would see more bilateral activities on cooperation in the energy sector, including by initiating investment projects in Moldova’s energy system with the participation of companies from Romania. Grigoresecu noted that Romania would back Moldova’s efforts for modernizing and creating an efficient energy system in line with European standards.

Attending the event were Deputy Economics Minister Valeriu Triboi and Secretary of State of the Romanian Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Relations with Business Environment Sorana Baciu.
