Embassy of Turkey in Chisinau says repair of Moldovan presidency's building donation on behalf of Turkish nation

Chisinau, 19 January /MOLDPRES/ - The repair of the Chisinau-based presidential institution represents a donation provided by the Turkish nation to the people of Moldova, reads a declaration submitted to MOLDPRES by the Embassy of Turkey in Chisinau.

The works of reconstructing the Presidency’s building will start as a result of a request by President Igor Dodon at a meeting he had with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Binali Yildirim.

“The request by Igor Dodon was approved by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in July 2017 and on 22-23 December, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) held a tender according to the legislation of Turkey, in which three Turkish companies participated. The tender was won by the Sonbay company, headquartered in Ankara, which bid the lowest price. The Turkish state’s ruling to repair the building of Moldova’s Presidency was communicated to the Chisinau authorities and, in particular, to the government, with all the procedures carried out transparently,” reads the declaration issued by the Embassy of Turkey.

According to the declaration, “just as in the case of development projects earlier implemented in Moldova, the Turkish side provides no financing to the Moldovan authorities, with all financial aspects coordinated by TIKA, which fully assumes the control over the project’s carrying out. Also, the signing of agreements is not practiced in case of development projects.”

Among the projects implemented in Moldova by TIKA last year, there are the renovation of the rehabilitation section of the Mother and Child Institute; endowment of the sports hall of the Fulger special police brigade; restoration of the Centre for Rehabilitation and Social protection of children at risk from Tvardita.

Presently, there are more projects underway with the support of Turkey in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, among which: construction of a hospital, of a kindergarten and of a creation centre in Comrat, as well as of an asylum for elderly in Ceadar-Lunga.

The Embassy of Turkey also said that “the relations between Ankara and Chisinau are excellent and Turkey will continue implementing projects in diverse regions of Moldova, relying on the friendship relations and human values and not on politics.”

More contradictory information has recently appeared in press on the repair of the Presidency’s building, partially destroyed during the April 2009 events.
