Global Elections Day marked on 1 February

Chisinau, 1 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) marked the Global Elections Day today.
On this occasion, CEC organized more activities meant to attract citizens’ attention to the importance of polls in a democratic society. Within these activities, more pupils visited the Commission and the Training Centre in Electoral Sector. At the meetings, pupils learned about the importance of the elections, powers and activities carried out by the Commission and the way polls are organized. Also, the young people visited subdivisions of the CEC apparatus and had possibility take knowledge of the activities carried out by the latter.
The events organized in the context of the Global Elections Day will continue also during the next week through the organization of public lectures at Chisinau-based universities, a press club and an offline with bloggers. Participants in the events will present the slogan of the campaign of education and civic formation carried out by CEC this year and the first motivational sport will be launched.
An initiative to establish a Global Elections Day was launched at the Global Electoral Organization Conference, held in Hungary on 14-17 September 2005. Representatives of the electoral authorities from the world nominated the first Thursday of February as Global Elections Day, due to the fact that most international agreements in the field were signed on this period of the year.
