Chisinau, 9 February /MOLDPRES/ - A contingent of 60 officers, noncommissioned officers, sergeants and soldiers of the National Army on 11-17 February 2018 will participate in a multinational exercise, Platinum Eagle 18.1, due to be held at the Babadag Training Centre, Romania.

According to data by the Defence Ministry, the National Army servicemen will take part in the drills with 12 technology and military equipment units. The military vehicles will move on the route Chisinau-Cahul-Giurgiulesti on 10 February. The Moldovan soldiers will be trained along with servicemen from Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Ukraine and the USA.

The goal of the drills is to enhance the interoperability between the participating forces, maintain capability of training together, as well as to develop a friendly regional environment for the multinational military cooperation.

Under the scenario, Moldovan military will be part of an international company, led by colleagues from the USA, and will carry out fire activity with the weapons provided, as well as procedures of command and control at the level of subunit.

The participation of National Army’s servicemen in exercises in Romania has been recently discussed at a visit to Chisinau by Romanian Defence Minister Mihai Fifor. During the visit, the Romanian official informed that the authorities of Moldova and Romania might create a joint battalion for emergency situations.

President Igor Dodon has earlier criticized the participation of Moldovan servicemen in drills abroad and demanded that exits of National Army’s representatives outside the country be made only with the preliminary agreement of the supreme commander.
