Moldova signs new contracts on electric energy procurement

18:09 | 14.03.2018 Category: Economic

Chisinau, 14 March /MOLDPRES/ - The Energocom stock company has won the tender and signed the new contracts with the company Moldovan Power Plant (Kuchurgan Power Plant) and DTEK Pavlogradugoli from Ukraine on the supply of electric energy to Moldova for the period 1 April 2018 – 31 March 2019.

Under the new contracts, 70 per cent of the electric energy needed for Moldova will be purchased from the Kuchurgan power plant and 30 per cent – from the company DTEK Pavlogradugoli from Ukraine. This ratio was set for reasons dealing with the difference of price between the two bidders, so that the citizens pay an as low as possible final tariff, as well as to better tighten the security of the electricity supply, the information and media communication service of the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry has reported.

The average acquisition price is of 5.24 cents (U.S. dollar) for one KW/hour. Although the acquisition price offered by the two providers is higher than the one from the previous contract, the tariffs paid by citizens for the electric energy consumed will not increase, according to assurances given by the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry. And this given that, following the introduction of a new methodology of prices’ calculation, as well as due to the evolution of the exchange rate, solutions have been identified not to allow increase in tariffs because of the difference between the present contract and the previous one.

The operators regulated on the energy market of Moldova - Gas Natural Fenosa Furnizare Energie (Gas Natural Fenosa Energy Supply), RED Union Fenosa (Electricity Distribution Network Union Fenosa), Furnizarea Energiei Electrice Nord (Electric Energy Supply North), Moldelectrica and RED Nord will conclude contracts on electricity procurement with Energocom for the period 1 April 2018 – 31 March 2019.

The process of organizing tenders was monitored by a group of observers made up of representatives of the European Union Delegation in Moldova, EU High Level Advisers’ Mission and Secretariat of the Energy Community.

In 2017, the operators regulated on the energy market of Moldova, including Gas Natural Fenosa Moldova, signed contracts with Energocom on the procurement of electric energy for the period 1 April 2017 – 31 March 2018 just on the day when the old contract expired – 31 March.
