Chisinau, 6 May /MOLDPRES/ - The first performance of a play, KRUM, by Hanoch Levin took place at the Chisinau-based Mihai Eminescu National Theatre on 5 May evening.

The stage manager of the play is Luminita Tacu, the scenography belongs to Irina Gurin, the video projection – to Ian Onica and the corporeal expression – to Irina Slobodeaniuc.

Contacted by MOLDPRES, the director general of the theatre, Petru Hadarca, said that, after he had staged the thrilling play Copiii foametei (Famine Children) by Aleksey Vakulovski, Luminita Tacu came with a new experience of stage manager – an absolutely special play, which quite successfully completes the theatre’s repertoire. ‘’This is a dynamic play, with much music, rhythm, dance and speeches, which I hope will be a good success,’’ Petru Hadarca stressed.

According to the actor playing the leading part, Alexandru Plesca (Krum), the play is about a 38-year-old man, who left abroad; afterwards, upon returning home, he desperately tried to achieve his personality, dreamt even to write a novel, but he did not manage to do this. ‘’He tries to achieve his personality in continuation, but he fails. This is a play about young people and for young people. I hope that many of them recognize themselves in this play,’’ Alexandru Plesca said.

Hanoch Levin, one of the well-known Israeli dramatists, was born in Tel Aviv in 1943. He studied philosophy and specialty literature at the Tel Aviv University. Levin started his work in poetry and then continued with dramaturgy. Hanoch Levin became resident dramatist of the Cameri Theatre from Tel Aviv and also cooperated with Habima, the National Theatre of Israel. Levin wrote 50 plays, of which 34 were staged. His works include comedies, tragedies and satiric plays. He was laureate of numerous theatre prizes both in Israel and abroad, especially at the Edinburgh Festival, with his plays staged all over the world. Krum is among the most exciting and popular plays of the dramatist, staged by the author himself in 1975.
