European Museum Night to take place in over 60 museums of Moldova

Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/ - Six national museums and over 60 local museums from 18 districts of Moldova on 19 May expect their visitors at a string of events occasioned by the European Museum Night – the night counterpart of the International Museum Day, marked on 18 May.   

Thus, on 19 May, starting from 10:00, the doors will be opened for the free of charge visiting of the permanent and temporary exhibitions of the National History Museum of Moldova. An origami workshop for children and parents, Magic Hands, will be held at the same museum at 11:00, followed by screenings of movies from a special issue of the Cronograf International Documentary Film Festival.     

A recital of classical music, given by pupils of the Maria Biesu musical school  will take place at the same museum in the evening. At the same time, a cultural and educative programme, given by the Interior Ministry’s Stefan cel Mare Academy,   for people fond of military history and traditions, a recital of classical music will be held at the museum. The programme culminates with a light music concert in the evening.  

At the National Ethnography and History Museum, the programme dedicated to the International museum Day will start at 15:00 with the inauguration of the belvedere, Musical Pavilion, from the Museum’s Botanical Garden following works of conservation and restoration. The programme also comprises other actions.

At 20:00, guests of the aforementioned museum will watch a programme of African traditional dances, with Mohamed Kante, professional dancer, Bamako city, Mali, Africa, a master-class in African dances. A concert of the Tamala band, Mali Africa, will take place at the museum at 21:00-22:30. The band’s tour, organized in Moldova for the first time ever, is backed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.    

More interesting exhibitions will be staged at the National Ethnography and Natural History Museum.

Also on 19 May, the National Art Museum of Moldova will host a varied programme of the European Museum Night. At 20:00-21:00, the Select Strings Quartet gives a recital of classical music; at the same time, the quartet Pasione has a recital of classical music at 22:00-23:00.  

Presently, 124 museums are recorded in the National Register of Museums of Moldova, of which only six museums with 12 branches are subordinated to the Education, Culture and Research Ministry.
