Chisinau, 18 May /MOLDPRES/ – An electric bus produced in Belarus was launched on a new route in Chisinau today.

During the event, interim director of the General Directorate of Public Transport and Communications of the Capital, Vitalie Butucel, specified that local authorities have intended to put in circulation more electric trolley – buses in perspective.

"In EU, trend of development of the ecological transport and autonomous electric transport predominates. Last year in Minsk we opened first transport line with such electrics, and today we also see this type of transport in Chisinau, which is very enjoyable. We are going to go with certain steps towards development of this transport in Chisinau municipality," said Butucel.

Such electric vehicles are to be established on routes in city where there is no electrical wiring. "There is no need to invest in a new contact network, as it is more profitable to buy electric trolley – buses. We will discuss with members of Municipal Council about purchase of electric buses," said Vitalie Butucel.

At his part, Belarusian ambassador to Moldova, Serghei Ciciuc, specified that electric bus was brought to Chisinau on basis of agreements reached during recent visit to Moldova of President of Belarus, Alexandr Lukashenko.

"The electric trolley – bus is an absolutely environmentally friendly transport. This type of transport is already on streets of Minsk, and now we are happy to travel here. We hope that electric buses will be assembled in Chisinau and sold the European Union countries," said the official.

The electric bus route "E" was opened as an experiment. This will be called "Parcul „Alunelul” – Gara Feroviara Chisinau” (Park Alunelul – Railroad Station Chisinau) and will have following itinerary: Tour: Calea Iesilor – bd. Stefan cel Mare and Sfant – bd. Constantin Negruzzi – bd. Iu. Gagarin, and return will be on the same route.

The electric bus will be tested for a month, after which Chisinau authorities will decide whether to purchase or return to Belarus.
