Moldovan, Cypriot foreign affairs ministers discuss protection of interests of Moldovans' community from Cyprus

Chisinau, 18 May /MOLDPRES/ - Foreign Affairs and European integration Minister Tudor Ulianovschi and his Cypriot counterpart Nikos Christodoulides  have agreed to boost the bilateral cooperation, especially on the consular dimension, as well as in other mutually advantageous fields, in order to promote and protect the interests of the Moldovans’ community from Cyprus, which has several thousands of persons born in Moldova. The two officials had a meeting at the session of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, held in Denmark, the Foreign Affairs and European Integration Ministry’s public diplomacy, strategic communication and media interaction service has reported. 

During discussions, Ministers Tudor Ulianovschi and Nikos Christodoulides exchanged opinions on cooperation within international organizations. The officials also voiced interest in the promotion of an agenda of actions to develop new prospects for deepening the bilateral collaboration. The sides also evoked the organization of a visit to Moldova by President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades during this year.

In the context, Nikos Christodoulides stressed the importance of fostering the bilateral cooperation in the sectors of economic and digital diplomacy, as well as the need to strengthen the bilateral legal framework.   

For his part, Minister Ulianovschi appreciated the importance and benefits of the experience of Cyprus in the promotion of reforms and meeting the criteria of accession to the European Union, as well as the willingness of the Nicosia government to back Moldova’s efforts in the advancement of the domestic reforms and in the dialogue with the European structures.
