Parliament approves national concept of mass media development in Moldova

Chisinau, 14 June /MOLDPRES/ – The Parliament has adopted in its final reading the National concept of mass media development in Moldova. The draft law was supported by 53 MPs today.  

The new document will serve as a reference point for public policy within mass media, policies aimed at strengthening the role of mass media system in securing constitutional right to info of citizens and in consolidating a democratic society.

The document establishes normative framework for regulating activity of mass media, as to ensure its functioning on democratic principles and in a secured media space. Similarly, legal and economic framework has been regulated to ensure management of mass media as a specific economic agent in conditions of market economy and loyal competition.

A separate chapter of Concept refers to tools and modes to solve identified issues. The solutions include continuous improvement of national legal framework within mass media and related fields, elaboration and implementation of strategy, programme and action plan in order to achieve Concept's objectives, monitoring and analysis of implementation process, as well as development of media research. Annually, Government will make reports upon results of objectives' implementation.

According to authors, Concept complies with European regulations and has been drawn up by national and international experts as well as representatives of civil society within the Working Group on better mass media legislation.
