Seven foreign companies interested in modernization of 250 km of railway in Moldova

Chisinau, 20 June /MOLDPRES/ - Seven companies from Romania, Ukraine,  Russia and Kazakhstan have showed interest in the modernization of 250 km of railways in Moldova. The spending for the restructuring of the railway infrastructure will be covered with loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).  

According to the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry’s (MEI) information and media communication service, a MEI state secretary, Serghei Bucataru, along with representatives of seven foreign companies and the management of Moldova’s Railway state enterprise (CFM) today inspected the railway infrastructure on the segment Chisinau-Bender-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti, in order to establish the volume of railways’ rehabilitation works due to be carried out.  

The study visit took place in the context of implementation of a project on rehabilitation and modernization of CFM. The state enterprise presented details of the acquisition of the works on restoration of railways and the strategy of the project’s implementation. The tender for the re-establishment of the railway infrastructure of the segment Bender-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti is scheduled for the third quarter of 2018.
