Exhibition dedicated to cooperation of Moldova, Council of Europe vernised at National Library

Chisinau, 12 July /MOLDPRES/ – The National Library of Moldova (BNM) in partnership with Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) and Permanent Representation of Moldova to the Council of Europe inaugurated today exhibition "Council of Europe – Moldova: Achievements and Priorities".

The event was opened with anthem of EU, "Ode of Joy", performed by National Library quartet: Veronica Valuta – Bantas, Tatiana Gheiceanu, Diana Silvestru and Irina Savin.

In her speech, the head of the institution, Elena Pintilei, mentioned that the event is organised in context of marking the 23rd anniversary of Moldova's acceptance into the Council of Europe (CoE) family. According to the cited source, the exhibition includes publications and documents from collection of the Pro-European Centre for Services and Communication (CPESC) within BNM, dedicated to CoE, cooperation with Moldova, CoE – EU joint programmes. Also, a special place in exhibition is reserved for a donation of books and documents, offered by the Permanent Representation of Moldova to the Council of Europe, in the person of Ambassador Corina Calugaru.

In this context, Eva Gutjahr, the interim head of the Council of Europe's Office in Moldova, said that at present, CoE is implementing in our country some important projects: promoting a criminal justice system based on respect for human rights in Moldova, Joint Union Project European and Council of Europe – Combating Corruption through Law and Prevention (CLEP), Joint European Union and Council of Europe – Promoting Mass Media Freedom and Pluralism in Moldova, etc.

At the same time, Orest Dabija, head of department at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, said last week that the ministry held four exhibitions dedicated to promoting the cultural heritage of Moldova in Strasbourg.

The Republic of Moldova became a member of the Council of Europe on 13 July 1995.
