International Opera, Ballet Festival Maria Biesu inaugurated in Moldova

Chisinau, 08 Septembrie /MOLDPRES/ – The 20th issue of the International Opera and Ballet Festival (FIOB) Maria Biesu, which will take place between 07 – 16 September in Chisinau under aegis of Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, was inaugurated on 07 September evening at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet (TNOB) with performance: Macbeth, performed in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi, directed by Andrea Battistini from Italy.

In her greeting speech, the Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Monica Babuc, said that "although in the twenty-first century we are living in a constant hurry, forgetting of essential and very simple things, miracles happen and, already in the autumn, already for 26 years, all lovers of lyrical art gather around a symbol – Maria Biesu, Primadona of the National Opera, which not only left us heritage, which is beloved worldwide, but also this festival that delights and fills our souls with joy". The official noted that, traditionally, the event brings to the stage of TNOB some of the most valuable artists of the world, but also the most notorious artistic forces in Moldova.

Thus, among the soloists and conductors which perform at the Festival, there are ten names such as: Ventseslav Anastasov and Tsveta Sarambelieva, soloists of Sofia Opera Theatre, Hanying Tso in Taiwan (China), Florin Guzga, opera soloist Tomashek from Romania, Victor Tomashek and Alexandra Vorobiova from the Odessa Opera Theatre, Ragaa Eldin from the Cairo Opera, Vladyslav Lysak (Ukraine), Veronica Tello (Spain), conductors Tiberiu Soare (Romania), Oleksiy Baklan and Alexandru Samoila (Ukraine), etc.

The main roles of the opera presented on 07 September evening were Ventseslav Anastasov from Bulgaria (Macbeth) and Hanying Tso from Taiwan (China), (Lady Macbeth). The cast included: Valeriu Cojocaru, People's Artist (Banco), Marina Dobrescu (Dama), Ion Timofti, Art Master (Macduff), Nicolae Văscăuţan (Malcolm); Iurie Portnîh (Medic, Sicario) and others. The conductor was Nicolae Dohotaru, Artist of the People. Scenography is signed by Iurie Matei, Artist of the People. Costumes Anastasia Spataru, choreography by Ada Simon Totario (Italy), choir master Oleg Constantinov.

The programme includes eight high artistic performances – four operas (Macbeth, Boema, Carmen, Secrets Marriage), three ballets (Romeo and Juliet, Lake Swan, Spartacus) and a gala concert featuring notorious names from international lyrical world: legendary Peruvian tenor – Juan Diego Florez, singer from Moldova – soprano Valentina Nafornita, soloist at the Vienna Opera, Austria, baritone Andrei Jilihovschi, first soloist at Moscow Bolshoi Theatre, Mihail Dogotaru, Igor Turcanu, which, according to Minister, Monica Babuc, "will turn a usual Sunday evening into a memorable one."

On 08 September, at 18:30, TNOB Maria Biesu performs Romeo and Juliet, and on Sunday, at 18:30, Boema by Giacomo Puccini. On 11 September, it is presented ballet Swan Lake by P. I. Cheaikovsky and on 12 September, audience is invited to watch opera Carmen by Georges Bizet.

The 20th issue of FIOB Maria Biesu is organised by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) and TNOB, under aegis of Prime Minister, Pavel Filip.
