Speaker meets delegation of parliamentary friendship group Estonia-Moldova

Chisinau, 14 September /MOLDPRES/- The authorities have begun preparations for parliamentary elections in Moldova to be fair and transparent, and citizens to freely choose their representatives in parliament under the mixed electoral system. Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu made the statement at a meeting with delegation of the parliamentary friendship group Estonia-Moldova, the parliament’s communication and public relations department has reported.

The speaker said that the parliament will back the institutions responsible for efficiently organizing the electoral process. He noted that the legal committee on rules and immunities is currently organizing hearings with participation of civil society and experts to consider provisions of the electoral legislation, including the need to regulate electoral agitation in the online environment. According to the speaker, Estonia's experience in this area is also being examined.

Discussions also focused on the level of implementation of the provisions of the Association Agreement with the EU, the progress of our country, especially at the legislative level, judicial reform and political developments in Moldova.

A delegation of the Parliamentary Friendship Group Estonia - Moldova is paying a visit to our country on 13-16 September. The visit aims to deepen the parliamentary cooperation relations, especially at the level of the parliamentary friendship groups. The delegation headed by Estonia-Moldova Parliamentary Friendship Group Chairman Erki Savisaar includes lawmakers Terje Trei, Meelis Mälberg, Dmitri Dmitrijev and Maire Aunaste.
