Chisinau, 02 October /MOLDPRES/ – The authorities are looking for a compromise solution so that unvaccinated children to return to school. The announcement was made today by deputy Speaker of Parliament, Valeriu Ghiletchi, at the end of the meeting of the governing coalition.

According to Ghiletchi, the subject of schooling for unvaccinated children is of interest to many parents in Moldova, who for various reasons have not vaccinated their children. "There is a relatively large number of children who are not attending school today because of non – vaccinations. We have agreed with the Government to find a compromise solution for them to return to school. Meanwhile, there must be talks with parents, family doctors to get the children vaccinated," said Ghiletschi.

On 01 October, the Socialist MP, Vladimir Odnostalco, filed a petition to the Constitutional Court (CC) asking it to expose the constitutional obligation imposed by the healthcare authorities on vaccination of children against measles. He noted that the faction he is part of would come up with an initiative in Parliament to repeal the law and the articles obliging the vaccination from national legislation because "this would be discriminatory, it does not benefit the family and the country as a whole."

In late August, the Ministry of Healthcare, Labour and Social Protection (MSMPS) issued an order announcing the Orange Code on the risk of measles spreading and advised educational institutions not to accept unvaccinated children in the study process.

There have been recorded 295 confirmed cases of measles on 01 January – 02 October 2018. A significant increase in the number of illnesses was confirmed in August, being confirmed 239 cases.
