Chisinau, 25 October /MOLDPRES/ - Over 600 teachers from both banks of Dniester have been trained in the human rights sector within a project financed by the European Union and implemented by the public association, Institute for Democracy.

The project, Enhancement of mutual trust between teachers from the banks of Dniester, was carried out in partnership with the Rodoliubets Bulgarian cultural society from the Transnistrian region and the Chisinau-based Centre for Promotion and Protection of Young Women’s Rights.

At a news conference, the head of the public association, Institute for Democracy, Andrei Borșevski, said that 350 of the teachers trained within the project were from the Transnistrian region. “These are teachers working both in schools and in higher education institutions. The goal of the project was to get close Chisinau and Tiraspol, to enhance the trust and back initiatives which involve teachers from both banks of Dniester. At the same time, the initiative is aimed at implementing ways of pro-active education and at creating permanent relations by enhancing the mutual confidence. We are happy that the teachers trained will transmit the knowledge gained to the young generation, in order to cultivate active citizens, who know the principles of democracy,” Andrei Borșevski noted.

About 50 trainings were carried out within the project, which were moderated by experts from the USA, Ukraine and Moldova. “The seminars took place in Chisinau, Comrat and in more settlements from the Transnistrian region. At the events, teachers had occasion to exchange opinions and experience, as well as to come up with their own initiatives,” the director of the Rodoliubets Bulgarian society, Andrei Nicolaev, said.

For her part, a methodologist at the centre for the promotion and protection of young women, Jana Șașacova, stressed that, within the project, three centres of methodological resources had been set up, where teachers and students from pedagogical faculties can come and prepare for classes. “They have access both to specialized books and to online resources. The centres were opened in Chisinau, Comrat and in the Parcani settlement, which is nearby Tiraspol and Bender. The teachers are quite contented with their creation, as they are able to improve here their knowledge in the human rights field,” Sasacova noted.

„From the very beginning, teachers were more reserved; yet, during seminars, they managed to exchange opinions and participate in discussions with experts. Also, the teachers could see the realities from the education institutions of the two banks of Dniester, know from the first source the problems and events in the country,” a representative of the Tiraspol-based school of political studies, Elena Alexii, said.

More books presenting the human rights subject were edited within the project, which were distributed to more education institutions from Moldova.

The project, Enhancement of mutual trust between teachers from the banks of Dniester, was launched in 2016 and has an overall value of 650,000 euros, provided by the European Union.
