Chisinau, 29 November /MOLDPRES/- Organization of the event with the joint efforts of the MAEIE and IOM in Chisinau reconfirms the interest and commitment of Moldova in implementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (PGM), the official adoption of which will take place in December 2018 in Marrakesh, Morocco. Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovschi made the statement at opening of the national workshop for planning PGM implementation, the MAEIE’s press service has reported.

Ulianovschi noted that Moldova is fully involved in the migration process, maintains a prodigious dialogue with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and actively participates in the Global Forum on Migration and Development, etc.

In this context, the Moldovan official pointed out that facilitating safe, orderly and regular migration through the implementation of planned and well-managed migration policies is one of the goals of the Agenda 2030 for sustainable development and is an integral part of the content of the National Development Strategy Moldova 2030, approved by the government on 8 November 2018.

“PGM implementation is for our country a significant opportunity to further enhance good governance in migration, to meet challenges and turn to good account benefits of migration in cooperation with other states, including through the future capacity building mechanism within the United Nations”, he said. He said that the 23 goals of PGM provide a comprehensive approach to supporting safe, orderly and regulated migration throughout the migration cycle.

Lars Johan Lonnback, head of the IOM Mission to Moldova, said he appreciates the good cooperation between Moldova and the International Organization for Migration, as well as carrying out of a number of projects with a positive impact on migration in our country and region.
