Glazed frost recorded on more roads of Moldova

Chisinau, 7 January /MOLDPRES/ - Glazed frost has been formed on Moldova’s roads in places and the movement takes place in winter conditions following the snowfall from the last days. The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) informed that, at present, there were no blocked roads in Moldova and the State Administration of Roads (ASD) gave assurances that all dangerous segments were permanently monitored.   

Among the roads where glazed frost has been formed, there are: Chisinau-Orhei-Soroca-Otaci, Chisinau-Ungheni-Sculeni, Hancesti-Leova-Cahul, Anenii Noi-Causeni-Stefan Voda-Palanca, Balti-Falesti-Sculeni. The same situation is recorded also on the roads connecting the Moldovan capital with the settlements Leuseni, Dubasari, Bender. 

More than 1,800 tons of antiskid materials have been spread on the highways, republican and regional roads since 6 January evening till today morning. As many as 157 special equipments and almost 300 road workers carried out works of patrol, snow clearing and fighting the glazed ice.    

ASD recommended that the participants in the traffic comply with the provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation in force, especially the ones dealing with the endowment of vehicles and their driving during winter.  

At the same time, rescuers urged citizens to take into account the weather warnings and instructions by authorities. Drivers are warned to equip their transport means according to the cold season and to keep shovel, sand and chains in car boots. Also, it is advisable that the mobile phone’s battery be charged.

Meteorologists have forecast snowfall and low air temperatures for the next days as well.  

There is cold weather in Europe too. In Turkey, snowfall triggered delays and cancellations of flights and in Greece, three persons died because of the exceptionally cold weather.
