Chişinău, 9 January /MOLDPRES/

Interview given exclusively with the MOLDPRES State News Agency by a laureate of the National Prize, honorary president of the Union of Composers and Musicologists from Moldova, composer Ghenadie Ciobanu.

MOLDPRES: Dear Mr. Ghenadie Ciobanu, how the 2018 year was for you?

Ghenadie Ciobanu: It was an intense, fruitful year, with many events, with works sung abroad, with participations in international festivals and conferences, with editing of albums and books dedicated to my works. In particular, I would highlight the concerts from Romania. My works were sung in Bucharest, Bistrita-Nasaud and Cluj-Napoca. Also, my works were heard at concerts in Spain, Canada and in Russia. Also last year, the CD, Din antologia muzicii românești (From the Anthology of the Romanian Music) appeared, in which I am present with two works, along with other colleagues from Moldova. Also in 2018, the Bio-bibliography Ghenadie Ciobanu was printed.

M.: What important events marked the work of the Union of Composers and Musicologists from Moldova (UCMM) last year?

Gh. C.: I had several concerts dedicated to the Union (with Romania) Centenary, organized along with the Union of Composers from Romania. At these concerts, there were works sung by Gheorghe Mustea, Vlad Burlea, Snejana Paslari, Lidia Ciubuc, Vladimir Ciolac, Paul Gamurari and other composers. Also, two albums appeared with the support of the Education, Culture and Research Ministry, which comprise works for clarinet and piano and with solo piano by our composers. Another section of our activity represented the participation of young people and composers in national and international festivals. Among them, Lidia Ciubuc distinguishes herself, who is presently training for her second master’s degree in Italy. As a matter of fact, the prospects of the musical works depend on the involvement of young people. President of the Union of Composers and Musicologists from Moldova Pavel Gamurari is one of those on whom we rely, and by his side, there are several members of the management board, equally young: Lidia Ciubuc, Anastasia Lazarencu, Marian Ungur and Vitalie Mosiiciuc. Also, we have recently accepted five members in the Union: three composers (Alexandru Timofeev and Vasile Medvedi, settled in the USA and Marcel Spinei, member of the Union of Composers from Romania, born in Moldova) and two musicologists: Ecaterina Garbu and Ludmila Gorobciuc.

M.: How do you think the 2019 year will be for you and the UCMM members?

Gh.C.: The first event we are to have this year will be the national contest of composing and musicology, which is expected to be quite interesting, as UCMM  has already started receiving works. We will also hold the International Festival of New Music, in which a numerous presence of composers and collectives from Romania is expected. This year too, during the festival, we will have concerts with reciprocity in Russia, either in Saint Petersburg or Moscow, as well as in Moldova. The 2019 year is already the third one when we will have exchange concerts with this country.

M.: But what composer Ghenadie Ciobanu is expecting this year?

Gh.C.: In 2018, my works were sung in more countries. I hope that the same thing will happen this year as well. On 16 January, one of my works will be sung at the Romanian Athenaeum by pianist and composer Lidia Ciubuc. In next April, my work for band and soprano voice, Deux chansons, with lyrics by poets Valeriu Matei and Matei Visniec, will be sung in Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca. Also, this work is scheduled to be sung in France. Presently, I work on a musical work for soloists of the National Chamber Orchestra from Canada, which will be sung during this year.

M.: Thank you for the interview! Great success!
