Former employee of Moldovan Intelligence and Security Service says politicians must prove maturity in approaching national security policies

Chisinau, 15 February /MOLDPRES/ - Politicians from Moldova should prove maturity in treating issues of national security and should not divide the society and the state’s institutions must have a common approach. A reserve colonel, former employee of the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS), Alexandru Popescu, has made statements to this effect in an interview given exclusively to MOLDPRES.

Referring to the case of Moldovan pilots held hostages in Afghanistan, Popescu said that, in this case, one could notice a dissonance as regards the attitude, visions and way of involvement and a break was created between representatives of Moldova’s top leadership.

According to Alexandru Popescu, the authorities should think about how we could prevent such situations in the long run. “We should describe this thing as a safety of the state and the citizens, we must think which is the place and role of Moldova and our services in the world security architecture, how should we act in order to be able to settle problems dealing with the security of the state and the citizens. Inside the state, we must be an entire monolithic unit and we should not be divided at all according to certain criteria, which might create great obstacles to solving these problems. Just think that our citizens get into similar situations soon. Who would like to help us, when they see who we are and how we react in such crisis situations,” the former SIS employee said.

Alexandru Popescu wondered how the two Moldovan pilots had got to be taken hostages in Afghanistan, noting that pilots from Moldova fly to the most risky and badly paid places, with increased risks.
