Chisinau, 26 March /MOLDPRES/ - Eight new cases of measles have been recorded by specialists of the National Public Health Agency (ANSP).

Contacted by MOLDPRES, the head of the ANSP information and communication service, Olesea Croitor, has said that all the eight cases were registered in the Moldovan capital in members of a family belonging to a religion, who have recently returned from Craiova, Romania. The children have not been vaccinated.

According to Croitor, another two suspect cases of measles were recorded in a child from the eastern Anenii Noi district and in an adult from Chisinau, who has recently came back from sports competitions held in Dubai. The cases are under investigation.

ANSP’s data shows that the number of measles cases registered in Moldova has reached 357, of which 341 in 2018. A significant increase in the number of measles cases was recorded in last August, when 239 confirmed cases were registered.

Physicians epidemiologists remind residents that measles is an extremely contagious disease, which is spreading quickly. The first sign of the infection is the high fever, which lasts 1-7 days. Generalized eruptions appear 3-4 days after the fever begins. Pneumonia is the most frequent cause of death in measles.
