Restoration of more national roads to be finished in Moldova till late 2019

Chisinau, 28 March /MOLDPRES/ – The rehabilitation works on several national roads financed from external sources will be completed by the end of 2019. Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Chiril Gaburici, has discussed today the subject with the entrepreneurs responsible for the modernisation of routes.

Chiril Gaburici said that the authorities would no longer tolerate deviations in the road rehabilitation process, and charge each delay in their construction. "The roads built must be of high quality, and the works done on time. Also, more rigorous measures must be taken in the future to avoid delays and to monitor the execution stages of the works, and companies to fulfill their contractual obligations. We no longer want canceled contracts, we want successful jobs and good roads across the country," said the minister.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Anatol Usatii, said that the R33 road Chisinau – Lapusna and R16 Balti – Falesti – Sculeni road will be put into operation in November 2019.

Also, the companies involved in the rehabilitation of the national road R1 Chisinau – Ungheni – Sculeni have a new deadline for putting it into operation –  end of 2019, although initially the works were to be completed by July 2016. The European Investment Bank allocated €65.26 million for road rehabilitation of a length of 83.82 km.

"According to the plans submitted by the contractors, it is expected to be completed the road of a total length of 175 km and a value of about €135 million. Moreover, in 2018, and the beginning of 2019, there were signed contracts for rehabilitation of roads on the Chisinau – Giurgiulesti direction, M3 Porumbrei – Cimislia road, which is a new construction of 19 km. It was also signed the contract for M3 road around Comrat, 18 km. Another important section to be rehabilitated is M3 Chisinau – Giurgiulesti, with a length of 85.59 km. For these contracts the term of execution of the works is 36 months," said Anatol Usatii.

There were concluded 7 rehabilitation contracts for national roads from external sources in 2017 and 2018.

The public roads network in Moldova covers over 9,300 km, and the local roads of common interest – 30 thousand km.
