Positions of judges at supreme court of justice remain vacant in Moldova

Chisinau, 16 July /MOLDPRES/ – The seats of six judges at the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) remain vacant after none of candidates has accumulated the required number of votes on Tuesday, 16 July.

The announcement has made the head of Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM), Victor Micu. He has said that the decision of the members of the council is final and can not be appealed.

For the six chairs from the CSJ, six judges have been nominated, three of which are active in the Court of Appeal (CA).

At the beginning of the meeting of CSM, the Minister of Justice, Olesea Stamate, has called for agenda to be withdrawn from appointment of new judges at CSJ. She specified that the institution she is leading aims to reduce the number of judges in CSJ.

Also at CSM today, magistrate Petru Moraru has requested resignation of head of CSM, Victor Micu, on the grounds that he left on holiday in a critical period for judiciary.
