There are legal grounds for canceling Airport concession contract - parliamentary committee says

Chisinau, 30 August /MOLDPRES/- The head of the parliamentary committee of inquiry on privatization of 2013-2019, Igor Munteanu, announced today that there are all legal grounds for ab-initio cancellation of the concession contract of the Chisinau International Airport.

The commission members found several violations committed in the concession process, and the whole process was based on a closed competition. Also, the company declared the winner was not part of the list of participants admitted to the concession contest.

"The decisions made by the commission speak about the fact that the whole committee aimed at falsifying the results of the concession process. The investigation commission believes that the only legal remedy is for the parties to return to their initial positions, and the Airport to return to state management. The investigative bodies must take all urgent actions, including the application of the necessary restraint measures ”, Munteanu said.

He said he would file a complaint with the General Prosecutor's Office requesting the extension of the criminal file on concession of the Chisinau International Airport and the criminal investigation of the members of the competition commission. „Avia Invest company with the two partner companies was not entitled to participate in the competition. This illegality seriously vitiated the entire competition process ”,  he said.

He noted he will come up with initiatives to amend legislation to avoid any irregularities in privatization and concession of state assets, and will ask the Ministry of Economy to come up with information about the damage to the state in six years of concession.

Chisinau International Airport was granted a concession in 2013 for a period of 49 years. On 29 August, NR Investments company announced it has completed the 95% purchase transaction of the concession company of Chisinau International Airport.
